WeiBeam · Electrode solutions for high-temperature melting

In 2026, WeiBeam officially launched a molybdenum electrode recycling program that takes back spent electrodes and machining offcuts from customers, offers price credits and invoice offsets, and raises molybdenum resource efficiency through sorting, inspection and reprocessing, lowering total cost of use.

In mid-2026, WeiBeam officially announced the launch of a molybdenum electrode recycling program. The program is open to all customers using WeiBeam products and takes back spent molybdenum electrodes replaced on production lines as well as qualified offcuts from machining. Through a standardized inspection, sorting and reprocessing flow, the molybdenum material re-enters the manufacturing cycle.

Why recycle

Molybdenum is one of the higher-value non-ferrous metals, and an electrode that has reached the end of its service life still retains most of the value in its base material. In the past, customers handled spent electrodes in different ways: some sold them on their own through scattered, opaque channels; others mixed them with scrap steel, wasting a refractory metal resource. For WeiBeam, establishing a return channel also adds a source of high-quality recycled material, reduces sole reliance on primary molybdenum powder and eases the cost pressure created by raw material price swings.

How the recycling flow works

  • Declaration: the customer submits a recycling list through the service center, noting size, quantity and the approximate operating duty;
  • Assessment: WeiBeam grades and prices returned material by composition and condition, and the pricing rules are uniform and transparent for all customers;
  • Logistics: reverse logistics collection is arranged once a batch volume is reached, and small quantities can be handed over with the next delivery;
  • Processing: returned material is inspected and sorted, then enters remelting or powdering and is used again in electrode manufacturing;
  • Credit: the recycling payment can be offset directly against the customer's next invoice, simplifying the paperwork.

Economic and environmental returns

For customers, a spent electrode turns from a burden into revenue, further reducing the total cost of ownership; for WeiBeam, the energy consumed by returned material is far lower than primary ore smelting, so the carbon footprint per unit of product falls accordingly. The program is also a concrete step in line with green manufacturing policy, putting the circular value of refractory metals into practice.

Where we go next

Several long-term customers have joined a pilot in the months since launch. Based on their feedback, WeiBeam.com will refine the grading and pricing standard and the collection network, and is exploring how to add recycling data to customer service records so that, combined with electrode life analysis, customers get a more complete view of whole-life cost. Once the electrode loop is running, both suppliers and users benefit. WeiBeam will also disclose to participating customers how returned electrode material is used, and is exploring linking electrode recycling with long-term supply agreements, so that supply, use and recycling form a closed loop and resource circularity becomes a tangible, measurable gain for both sides. We also remind customers not to mix spent electrodes with ordinary scrap steel; separate storage and declaration significantly increase the recycling value.
