WeiBeam · Electrode solutions for high-temperature melting

Molybdenum discs, also called molybdenum sheets, are circular thin plates made from high-purity molybdenum powder by pressing, sintering, rolling to density and then blanking and machining. They serve as heating elements and heat shields in vacuum and sapphire furnaces, and as base parts for sputtering targets in vacuum coating and flat-panel display production. Plate over 1.5mm is normally supplied hot-rolled; sheet under 1.5mm is cold-rolled or cleaned to achieve better dimensional accuracy and surface quality. Density is the key indicator of soundness, typically ≥10.2 g/cm³; lower density means residual porosity and a higher risk of cracking at high temperature.

Grade selection depends on duty: Mo1 is ductile and easy to machine, suitable for fiberglass furnace heating elements and heat shields; MoLa uses lanthanum oxide dispersion to raise recrystallization temperature and creep resistance; TZM uses carbide dispersion with a recrystallization temperature around 1400 °C and higher high-temperature strength, often used for structural parts, targets and shielding. Discs can be supplied alongside electrodes and other furnace molybdenum parts.

In high-temperature melting and thermal-field systems this part is often used alongside electrodes elsewhere in the line. We recommend selecting them together against furnace structure, assembly method and working temperature to reduce thermal-expansion mismatch between different materials.

FAQ

Common questions

Selection, customization and quotation questions.

Are molybdenum disc and molybdenum sheet the same?

They are different names for the same family, usually circular thin molybdenum plate. Thickness, diameter, grade and surface condition are set by the application; specify dimensions and acceptance criteria when purchasing.

How do I choose between Mo1, MoLa and TZM?

Mo1 is general-purpose, ductile and cost-effective; MoLa with lanthanum oxide dispersion resists creep better for long high-temperature service; TZM recrystallizes around 1400 °C with higher strength for structural and shielding parts.

Can you machine shapes other than circles?

Yes. Besides discs, we produce squares, rings, grooved and special shapes, with drilling, chamfering and surface treatment as required, confirmed against the drawing and tolerances.
