NEWS
Company updates, product developments and high-temperature melting industry insight.

A molybdenum electrode is a high-temperature conductive component made mainly of high-purity molybdenum through powder metallurgy and forging. This article covers composition limits, key properties, manufacturing routes and product forms, then matches them to glass furnaces, fiber forehearths and rare-earth electrolysis, and sets out a six-step selection process, common misconceptions and incoming inspection points.

Electrification of glass melting is moving from a quality option to a strategic one. This article compares electric and fuel energy use, separates carbon into combustion, process and grid components, and sets out transition paths for new builds, existing furnaces and supporting systems.

Campaign life usually ends in gradual, multi-factor corrosion rather than a single failure. This article sets out five drivers of furnace life and the corrosion mechanisms behind them, then ranks spending on materials, electrode life, heat-up, rebuilds and data-driven monitoring.
FAQ
Life depends mainly on melting temperature, glass chemistry, electrode layout, current density and cooling management. It varies widely between furnaces, so there is no universal percentage figure. We can share references from similar duties and support standard-size sample trials on your line; actual results are documented in the technical agreement and measurement records.
Twelve fields: glass furnaces (container, packaging, pharmaceutical, PV and electronic glass), ceramic fiber and rock wool, fiberglass tanks, rare-earth molten-salt electrolysis, crystal growth, and quartz and optical glass.
Standard-size samples can be requested for on-line testing. Quantity, size and cost sharing follow the agreed trial plan; special sizes and larger trials are handled by mutual agreement.
Submit your furnace structure and process conditions through the form at the bottom of the page, or add WeChat weibeam2026. Our engineering team replies within 2 hours during business hours and provides a preliminary proposal within 24 hours. Requests received outside business hours are handled the next business day.
Core parameters include molybdenum content (≥99.95%, higher purity available), density (≥10.2 g/cm³), long-term working temperature (about 1300 °C, short-term limit about 1600 °C), current density (1–3 A/cm²), and sizes such as Ø20–100mm rods and 3–10mm plate. See the data tables in the product section.
Rods are mostly used for sidewall or bottom boosting and all-electric melting in glass furnaces; plates are common in fiberglass furnaces and throat heating. The choice depends on furnace structure, power supply and melting process; share the furnace data and our engineers will recommend a layout.
Above 600 °C in air, molybdenum oxidizes rapidly into volatile molybdenum trioxide. In practice, the section above the melt is protected with a water-cooled jacket or inert-gas cooling, and the electrode is inserted after the melt reaches level. Oxidation-resistant coatings or Mo-Zr dispersion-strengthened grades can also reduce oxidation loss.
Pure molybdenum offers the best overall value for most glass melting duties. MoLa and TZM (Ti-Zr-Mo) alloys have higher recrystallization temperatures and better high-temperature strength and creep resistance, suited to high current density, heavy duty or longer replacement intervals. Select by temperature, medium and budget.
