MOLYBDENUM NEEDLE
Molybdenum needle
Diameter 1.0–10.0mm | Length 5–150mm | Mo ≥99.95% | Precision tips
WeiBeam · Electrode solutions for high-temperature melting
Molybdenum needle is not a standardized product name and has no single public definition. In practice it covers two families: flow-channel clearing needles for fiberglass and aluminosilicate fiber furnaces, used to clear and guide flow at the discharge and forehearth; and discharge needles for electrostatic precipitation, negative-ion purification and plasma generators. The shapes look similar but duty and acceptance criteria differ completely. Furnace needles must withstand over 1600 °C and retain stiffness without bending or softening; diameters start at a few millimeters, with length set by the operating space. Discharge needles are judged on tip discharge concentration and consistency, with sharp, flat or radiused tips and optional nickel, gold or cast copper-sleeve finishes.
Slim parts are among the harder refractory-metal products to make well: straightness and tip precision must be held while controlling cost. Needles commonly range from Ø1.0–10.0mm and 5–150mm long, with surface finish down to Ra0.25 or better. Like stream mouths and electrodes, they can be supplied as part of a furnace package.
In high-temperature melting and thermal-field systems this part is often used alongside electrodes elsewhere in the line. We recommend selecting them together against furnace structure, assembly method and working temperature to reduce thermal-expansion mismatch between different materials.
FEATURES
Molybdenum needle — key features
Core characteristics for furnace conditions and operating requirements.
High-temperature resistant
Mo ≥99.95%, melting point about 2623 °C, suited to short-cycle clearing above 1600 °C.
Precision tips
Tip shape and taper machined to drawing, normally to micron-level accuracy.
Straightness control
Slim parts are controlled for straightness to avoid assembly offset and hot bending.
Two applications
Furnace clearing needles and discharge needles, accepted for temperature or discharge consistency respectively.

FAQ
Common questions
Selection, customization and quotation questions.
Is molybdenum needle a standard part?
It is not a national or industry standard name. Before ordering, state the application (furnace clearing or discharge), operating temperature and dimensions so material and acceptance criteria can be confirmed and the wrong product avoided.
For furnace clearing, molybdenum or tungsten?
For duty above 1600 °C with long exposure, evaluate tungsten first; for short-cycle clearing where cost matters on batch parts, molybdenum is suitable. Both are brittle, so advance along the channel axis and avoid lateral force.
Can tip shape be customized?
Yes. Tips can be sharp, flat, radiused or custom to drawing, with cone angle and tip radius machined to precision requirements, and optional coatings and copper sleeves.
