WeiBeam · Electrode solutions for high-temperature melting
An evaporation boat carries the evaporant and is resistance-heated during vacuum evaporation, commonly made of molybdenum and also called a molybdenum evaporation boat or coating boat. The structure is usually a thin wall with a narrow slot or cavity that concentrates current in the evaporation zone and limits heat loss.
Key parameters are wall thickness, slot geometry, effective evaporation length and the clamping dimensions at both ends. A thick wall heats slowly while a thin wall has a shorter life; fix these from the coater electrode spacing, evaporant and target rate, and run a life test before a production batch.
In high-temperature melting and thermal-field systems this part is often used alongside electrodes elsewhere in the line. We recommend selecting them together against furnace structure, assembly method and working temperature to reduce thermal-expansion mismatch between different materials.

FAQ
Common questions
Selection, customization and quotation questions.
How does an evaporation boat differ from a standard molybdenum boat?
An evaporation boat emphasises a thin wall, narrow slot and resistance-heating efficiency, with dimensions tied to the coater fixture; a standard boat emphasises load capacity and reuse. Each is designed for its own duty.
Is a thinner wall always better?
No. A thin wall heats faster but lasts shorter, while a thick wall heats slowly and uses more energy. Select from the evaporant, target rate and replacement interval, and validate with a small life test.
Can you confirm the slot geometry first?
Yes. Provide electrode spacing, boat length, slot width and effective evaporation length; we issue a confirmation drawing before machining samples.
